Reigen cocked his hip against one of the trees as he watched the waves lap the shore. “I won’t lie, I’m worried too.”

Especially after Max’s bizarre encounter with a Doppio that was very much not like the nice boy they all had gotten to know and like.

“You haven’t had any visions about it, have you?”

Hitomi shook her head. "No, not yet."

“What are you most worried about?”

Hitomi knitted her fingers together. "What if whatever he finds out about himself changes him?"

“Like…for the worse?”

"I'm don't know... but I'm afraid of losing the Doppio in front of us right now."

Reigen hummed in agreement. “His circumstances are pretty strange, I’ll admit…but he trusts us. The best thing we can do is trust him back.”

Hitomi gave Reigen a nod that she hoped registered more confident than she felt.

"Okay, you get changed," Max called out as she stepped out the van. She slammed the sliding door shut behind her.

"What's up with the serious faces?" she asked, looking from Reigen to Hitomi.

“Just fretting over our cute Doppio a bit. Can you blame us?”

"Can't wait to have him show you the outfit he picked out."

“Speaking of, you never saw him in Hitomi-chan’s princess getup, did you?”

"No. And you two hid this from me?" Max looked at the two of them with mock hurt, as if their inaction was a personal affront.

Reigen grinned. “I’m sure if Hitomi-chan asks him real nice he’ll put it right back on.”

The wanted posters had thinned out but it had come in real handy when they were in the thick of them.

"It'd be weird for me to ask something like that!"

“Look, all I’m saying is while I may be the Captain, you’re the one whose words would go the farthest with him.”

Hitomi shook her head insistently. "He really looks up to you, Reigen-san!"

“You ever thought about why he kept dressing in girls clothes even at camp?”

Hitomi hadn't even considered that before. "Well... I guess he probably likes it."

Reigen’s lips twitched. Doppio definitely didn’t seem to hate it.

“It’s because until Max showed up, you were the only girl. In his own unorthodox way, he didn’t want you to feel like the outsider.”

"Really?" That hadn't even occurred to Hitomi. "But now there's no reason for him to wear girls clothing."

"They fit pretty well!" Doppio piped up as he approached Max, fiddling with the bottom of his shirt. To his own surprise, he really liked the design on the front. The skull was macabre but he found himself drawn to it. The black sleeves also covered up his tattoos if he pulled them down far enough.

The jeans...took more getting used to. The only pants he had worn in awhile were Reigen's baggy ones, and those were extra baggy on him.

"Whoa." Max let out a low whistle. "Looking good, Doppio!"

Hitomi nodded in agreement. "You look very handsome."

Doppio rubbed his face, suddenly overwhelmed at being complimented by the pair of women. Pretty and adorable were one thing, but handsome was something else entirely.

“Oh…where’s Chid?”
